今日，新西兰总理约翰·基向对MegaUpload创始人Kim Doctcom道歉，他表示此前没能在其受到非法监控的情况下保护到他。Dotcom这个案子从一开始就受到了广大的争议。而当时，新西兰法官授权给相关政府机关，突击了DotCom的家里并且逮捕了他。
下面是总理约翰·基的道歉原话："I apologise to Mr Dotcom, I apologise to New Zealanders because every New Zealander that sits within the category of having permanent residency or is a New Zealand citizen is entitled to be protected from the law when it comes to the GCSB, and we failed to provide that appropriate protection for him,"（我向DotCom先生表示道歉，并且我还要对新西兰的公民道歉，因为政府有义务保护每个在新西兰拥有永久居住权的居民以及本土公民。而这次我们却没有做到。）
