And thank you for your interest in Macromedia Flex. We're opening up our Beta 3 to new users and would like to invite you to participate. There are a couple of things you should know. First of all, we're nearing the end of our development cycle and we'll be responding to critical bugs only but your input is very important as we plan the next release. Please log bugs and enhancement requests into our bug database as well as participate in discussions with the Flex product team and other users in our beta forums. Secondly, we'd like to take a moment to discuss the design center for Flex so you can decide whether it is the right product for your environment.

The Flex presentation server is designed to help enterprise development teams deliver solutions in scenarios where traditional page-based HTML applications often fail. Examples include visual data dashboards, online product selection and configuration tools in an e-business setting, and customer self-service applications such as booking hotel reservations and adding a driver to an insurance policy.


If your project and team fits the following profile, Flex may be a good fit for you.

Project Type

Visual data dashboard

Online product selection or configuration tool

Self-service application

Existing Infrastructure

Java application server

n-tier application architecture (the user interface, business logic, and data storage / data access are developed and maintained as separate modules, organized into three or more tiers.)

Services oriented architecture

Team Profile

Java or other structured programming language skills

Use of design patterns (i.e.: MVC), defined application architecture

Team has at least one member with user-centered application design skills.


If you decide to participate in the beta, please remember that although there is public information available about Flex, Beta participants agree to an NDA and we ask that you please do not discuss Flex features or your participation in our beta program while it is ongoing.

Before installing Flex, please review the Release Notes posted on the site for details about known issues. As you work with Flex be sure to use the Beta forums to ask questions, and the bug database to file bugs and provide input to help deliver the best possible product.
