ImgBurn定位于小强版刻录工具，旨在为那些看到体积无比庞大的巨无霸Nero等商业刻录软件就发怵的家庭用户以及期望能以0资金投入寻求正版光盘刻录软件的中小企业提供最迷你最实用的免费刻录解决方案。2.2版开始对UniCode的支持，现在刻录名称包含中日韩等语言的文件时不会导致刻出来茶杯垫子了。ImgBurn 的“小”并不代表功能上的缩水，只是表示它占用的空间小，其实 ImgBurn 繁多的选项以及内置的各种实用工具一样能让人眼花缭乱，而初级用户却不需要担心上手是否存在难度，因为默认的配置已经是优化过的了，拿来就能用，至于前面提到的诸多选项，是提供给高级用户发挥的，所以不必存在多余的担心。
ImgBurn 支持所有主流刻录机和所有主流光存储媒介，可刻录几乎所有的盘片映像，目前支持BIN/CDI/CDR/DI/DVD/GCM/GI/IBB/IBQ/IMG/ISO/LST/MDS/NRG/PDI/UDI等。
ImgBurn 支持诸多先进的防刻死和刻坏盘特性，可外挂调用包括Nero在内的多款商业刻录软件的光存储引擎！ImgBurn 还擅长根据您在 IFO 文件中指定的换层点或自动进行智能计算换层点来高品质刻录双层的 DVD 盘片，以及制作 DVD 视频（DVD-Video）映像 - 后者得益于原作者在开发 DVD Decrypter 时积累的经验。
ImgBurn 甚至还支持命令行操作（ImgBurn/? 为查看语法）！原作者开放此特性的目的是便于第三方软件调用 ImgBurn，这也是对自身的一种推广：只要有客户群，即使软件的授权性质是免费的，一样不愁赚不到钱，需要的就是坚持 － 原作者显然很明白这个常理:) ImgBurn 不依赖任何外部库文件，不向系统目录写入任何文件，只对注册表进行一些简单的操作，安装后如果需要制作成随身版，简单提取一下安装目录的文件到你的移动存储器即可随拷随用。当然了如果你不希望 ImgBurn 在你机器的注册表里留下残余数据，带着原装安装包随身跑仍是明智选择！
注意：
由于ImgBurn是款支持多引擎的刻录软件，为了让没有安装其它任何刻录软件的裸机用户能使用微软的SPTI以外的第三方引擎进行刻录，集成了若干其它引擎：
∷Nero ASPI ＝ 著名的 Nero 系列产品所使用的引擎，将安装库文件至ImgBurn所在目录，可以与ImgBurn一起随拷随用。版本：2.0.1.74，安装它的话需要额外增加约 160 KB 硬盘占用
∷ElbyCDIO ＝ CloneDVD/CloneCD 等系列产品所使用的引擎，将安装库文件及驱动文件至系统目录，此引擎不可随拷随用。版本：6.0.3.1，安装它的话需要额外增加约 92 KB 硬盘占用
∷VSO Patin-couffin ＝ CopyToDVD/BlindWrite 等系列产品所使用的引擎，将安装配置前端至ImgBurn所在目录，并实时安装库文件及驱动文件至系统目录，且安装过程中需要联网，此引擎不可随拷随用。版本：1.36.0.93，安装它的话需要额外增加约 2.08 MB 硬盘占用
上述三个引擎默认安装Nero引擎，另外两个则默认不装，可根据需要自行调整。多个引擎可以混合安装，ImgBurn中随时可自由定义你要使用的引擎。实际上把这些引擎全部安装的话就等于1个刻录软件顶n个了:) 而即使不安装任何第三方引擎也不会影响你使用ImgBurn刻录盘片，如上所说Windows本身就有SPTI！ImgBurn另外还支持 Adaptec ASPI 引擎，由于这个引擎的性能与前三者相距甚远，而且已经停止开发，简言之－淘汰货，故不予集成。 （以上简介来自“狐狸少爷”~）
