微软今天在毫无征兆的情况下突然公布了一款Surface家族的新型号：Surface 3，与之前发布的Surface Pro 3不同，这款产品的起售价格仅为499美元，主要面向中低端市场，5月开始将向26个全球市场销售。这款平板采用10.8英寸设计，1920x1280分辨率的3:2屏幕，电池续航时间可长达10小时；两个 1080p高清摄像头，其中包括一个800万像素的后置自动对焦摄像头和一个350万像素的前置摄像头。
核心采用英特尔Atom x7-Z8700(Cherry Trail)处理器，工作频率1.6GHz，在忙时会通过Intel Burst加速至2.4GHz。
相比Pro版本，由于屏幕尺寸更小，Surface 3明显更轻，重量仅有622克，最小存储容量64GB起，相应配置2GB内存，也有大容量内存和闪存版本可供选择，价格各有不同。接口方面，Surface 3 提供一个USB 3.0接口，一个Mini DP接口和microSD读卡器。每一台Surface 3将会配备Office 365的一年订阅权限。
Surface 3平板由于发布时间较早，将并不会预装Windows 10，取而代之的是Windows 8.1，而在新系统正式发布后将提供平滑的升级过程。
