许 多内存检测软件一样,Memtest86不能检测电脑的100%的内存容量.但是它可以比一般检测软件可以检测到更多更精确的内存值.因为 Memtest86不需要操作系统.Memtest86被设计为从软驱或者光盘启动,这意味着操作系统还没有开始装载内存,内存基本上是未使用状态.理论 上来讲,用光盘启动要占用一定的内存,但是这部份内存只是DOS扩展内存,只有很小的几K字节,但这根本不能和WINDOWS操作系统至少占用几十上百M 来相比.用Memtest86光盘启动的的另一个好处在于不管电脑装的什么系统都可以用来检测内存.这意味着不管在Windows 、linux还是unix系统下都可以进行相对精确的检测.Memtest86的另外一个优点在于使用了E820技术。使用E820技术使得Memtest86像是BIOS列表一样可以列出内存资源使用的各种使用 情况。如果先用另一种检测方式,可以标记出所有有效的未用内存资源和电源供应列表(ACPI)。可以检测ACPI内存状况是因为检测并不依赖于储存在这些 tables里的数据,而且ACPI存贮空隙会在tables被复制后自动再生。
