微软3月27日发布Windows Search 4.0 Preview版本，据称Windows Search 4.0查询响应速度比Vista最初版本内置的要快1/3。Windows Search 4.0的搜索引擎也被Office Outlook 2007和OneNote 2007所使用。Windows Search 4.0主要的改进有：支持加密文件系统Encrypting File System (EFS)
减少在线对e-mail创建索引时对Exchange的影响，取消了本地cache。
改进了索引性能
Windows XP版本更新了更快的previewer
