（中文将在近日公布）Invision Power Board 2.1 enters the initial development phase. The proposed feature set has been finalized and the roadmap has been published.

The next version of Invision Power Board is focused on the following areas:

Refinement

IPB 2.1 continues the refinement process started in IPB 2.0. Several new areas which were introduced in IPB 2.0 will be matured and refined in this forthcoming release. Not only will we see some of the user interface refined, but also some features will be enhanced and improved.

Efficiency

Invision Power Board is already one of the most efficient forum systems available. We've had a lot of feedback on IPB 2.0 and we've identified several key areas which can be improved. For example, our high end clients which run on multiple and load balanced servers will be able to write the contents of the cache to their hard-drive, enabling this data to be shared across all balanced machines and to remove some dependency on the database. We're also looking at ways to reduce the forum cache requirement for those with thousands of forums.

Security

We take security very seriously and as part of our ongoing security program, the entire code base will be regularly checked and security improved when required. Some of the oldest parts of code are going to be re-written to take advantage of the code base improvements which will affect all parts of the project.

Modularity

IPB is an already modular board and we're going to take it further. Key areas such as session management, user control and log in components are going to be abstracted to make integration with your own data much easier.

We have put our roadmap (http://invisionboard.com/pages.ips/ipb21roadmap) online and we'll update it inline with development. We'll also update these forums here during each milestone release to test new functionality and code base improvements.

We have no firm release date set, but we estimate that it will be available for beta testing during the first quarter of this year. As always, we'll keep you updated.
