KNOPPIX是一套自由的（Free）和开源的（Open Source）GNU/Linux操作系统发行版。它是基于Debian Linux，能直接由CD启动运行的完整的操作系统。
KNOPPIX上面收集了一些GNU/Linux软件，并集成了自动硬件识别以及对许多图形显示卡、声卡、SCSI和USB设备以及其他外围设备的支持。KNOPPIX可以用于Linux演示、教学光盘、应急系统，或者被用来作为商用软件产品的演示平台。得益于其on-the-fly的解压缩技术，这张光盘上最多可以集成2 GB的可执行软件。
KNOPPIX十分适合从MS Windows平台转移到Linux平台的用户、或有兴趣尝试使用Linux的用户，以及进行Linux发行版开发和定制（custom）的用户。
What is KNOPPIX®?
KNOPPIX is a bootable CD with a collection of GNU/Linux software, automatic hardware detection, and support for many graphics cards, sound cards, SCSI and USB devices and other peripherals. KNOPPIX can be used as a Linux demo, educational CD, rescue system, or adapted and used as a platform for commercial software product demos. It is not necessary to install anything on a hard disk. Due to on-the-fly decompression, the CD can have up to 2 GB of executable software installed on it.
