Meanwhile, McAfee strongly recommends that customers continue elective deployment of the 5100 Engine within their environment, thus gaining the highest level of protection.
In particular, customers with extended VirusScan 4.51 support contracts using Windows 98, 98SE & ME should update to 5.1.00 as soon as it is practical to them. Customers using VirusScan 4.5.1 SP1 on Windows 95 platforms should contact McAfee support to receive a 4.4.00 Engine hot fix. By doing this, they will benefit from improved stability, compared to the 4.4.00 engine on the Windows 9x platforms.
In addition, the DAT & Engine updating infrastructure will be enhanced at the same time to support VirusScan Enterprise 8.5. Further details of this will be announced via a kb article in early October.
