微软Windows8.1 Update 1中推出了许多新功能，有助于使这款桌面操作系统更易于使用，微软又在8月推出Windows8.1 Update 2，引入了一些高级用户工具。微软原计划在2014年为Windows8.1推出两款更新，但现在情况发生变化。

根据Mary Jo Foley 在Twitter上爆料，微软可能正在研发Windows8.1 Upadte 3，而微软八月份推出的Windows 8.1更新被称为Windows 8.1 Update 2。

另外，匿名消息来源向Winbeta表示，微软已经开始研发Update 3，微软有可能在今年秋季发布Windows 8.1 Update 3，同时伴随Windows 8.1 Update 3一起发布的还有Windows Threshold的预览版。

微软原打算集成到Windows 8.1 Update 2当中的许多功能，最后都让给了Windows Threshold（Windows 9）。所以我们不知道Windows 8.1 Update 3将可以给用户带来什么样的功能。
