根据一项新的报告显示，微软将在明年年初推出主要针对智能手机和平板电脑的Windows Threshold ARM预览版。Windows Threshold ARM预览版将允许Surface RT 和Surface 2等平板电脑用户来测试全新的UI 2.0用户界面。Windows Threshold ARM预览版同时支持Windows RT平板电脑和Windows Phone设备。

Windows Threshold被认为是微软迈向第一款云操作系统的步骤之一。Windows Threshold将采用如Azure和Office 365那样的更新方式。这种更新方式同样适用于桌面和手机平板版本。

Windows Threshold有可能是最后一版Windows，之后不再会有Windows10或Windows11。现在唯一的问题是，Windows Threshold更新是否会基于付费订阅。微软已经计划让Windows 7和Windows8用户免费升级到Windows Threshold。
